Growth and Development of the Tech Industry
The Information & Communications Technology (ICT) sector in York Region is comprised of over 4,300 ICT companies -- Canada’s densest technology hub -- with most of the companies concentrated along the Markham-Richmond Hill-Vaughan corridor. Notable recent investments and initiatives in the Region include a GM Canada’s new technical center in Markham - creating up to 750 new software/hardware engineering positions, significant 5G R&D investments by Huawei Canada, IBM’s new Innovation Space, and a consortium bid to become a Canadian Innovation Supercluster. York Region also continues to see significant success in the growth of local tech scale ups, such as the recent Real Matters IPO.
This talk from York Link (York Region’s Economic Development team) will provide an overview of the local technology community and how the ICT cluster’s impact is reaching into other local industry verticals; plus how growth, urbanization, and quality of life impact the attraction of tech talent to the region.
The TechConnex AGM will provide members with a brief overview of the past year’s performance and a peek into the future as the Board sets direction for the year to come.
